symphyti Schmiedeknecht, 1883 North Mediterranean species, widely distributed in Slovenia. Oligolectic, specialized on Symphytum
(Boraginaceae). Nests in burrows in the ground, excavated by itself. Univoltine. Flies from April to June. |

As she has too short
a tongue to reach the nectar at the base of the flower from inside, female
cuts a slit in the corolla tube (seen above the bee) with her mandibles and
steals nectar from the outside. |
