Andrena symphyti Schmiedeknecht, 1883

 

 

North Mediterranean species, widely distributed in Slovenia.

Oligolectic, specialized on Symphytum (Boraginaceae). Nests in burrows in the ground, excavated by itself.

Univoltine. Flies from April to June.

 

 

As she has too short a tongue to reach the nectar at the base of the flower from inside, female cuts a slit in the corolla tube (seen above the bee) with her mandibles and steals nectar from the outside.

 

Razširjenost vrste v Sloveniji.

Zelo razširjena vrsta.
