NAVIS - Natural Audio and Video Documentation of Slovenia
The department keeps an archive of magnetic tapes, cassettes, DAT - cassettes and other sound media (CD-s, CD ROM-s, etc) with animal sounds recordings. Most of the original recordings contain insect sounds (Heteroptera, Homoptera) from Slovenia, Thailand and Malesia.
Recording equipment: professional Dat recorders, kolutna magnetofona
and laboratory Hi-Fi kit, computer systems for sound recordings editing and analysis (ADAP II - Atari ST 4; Macintosh PPC 8500/120 and ProTools 3, Canary 1.2). Microphones for human hearing range recording, vibrational converters, ultrasonic detectors.

The department produced WWW sites: Museum's bioacoustic pages (Songs of cicadas from Slovenia and Istria, Phantastic songs of the S.E. Asian cicadas).
Bibliography of Matija GOGALA and other staff contains more than 30 volumes in the field of bioacoustics.
Department's basic activity is video and photo documentation of fauna, flora and still nature of Slovenia. Studio's specialty is underwater and cave photography and film. Recorded material is kept and edited by department's video and fototeka. Editing studio is used for sorting and simple editing of recorded video material. The studio also produces programs for audiovisual dia presentations and organises lectures. It is run by Ciril MLINAR - Cic.
