Loans: Literature may be borrowed for use in the reading room (6-12 seats) or taken home. Previous announcement of your visits are preferred. If you cannot come to the library personally, you may still borrow books and journals after a written order by telefax or E-mail.

History: First collectings of literature begun in 1821, when Kranjski deželni muzej (Carniolian provincial museum) was established in Ljubljana. Slovenian museum of natural history was established in 1944 after separating from the then National museum. The special library of Slovenian museum of natural history offers its services to the museum's staff, but also to other users, who need professional and scientific literature from the field of natural sciences. A librarian is employed in the library since 1989.

Stock:The complete book stock of monographs and periodical volumes is approximately 20.000 units. The library also owns rare material from the 18. and 19. century. Yearly augmentation of periodicals is approximately 230 titles, for monographs around 150.
Profession: Library keeps natural sciences material (geology, paleontology, mineralogy, biology, botany, zoology, entomology, ornithology) and general literature. Newer entomological literature is kept at entomological department and counts over 600 monographs.
