INVERTEBRATE COLLECTIONS of THE SLOVENIAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY
As in many other similar museums, most of the collections in the Slovene Museum of Natural History are dry and pinned
collections of beetles and butterflies. Even though some date back to the very beginning of the museums, not all are fully
studied yet.
The Slovenian Museum of Natural History maintains invertebrate, especially entomological collections, of exceptional
historical worth, enabling us to see the development of biological thought processes,
collection techniques, and changes in the biodiversity. We call these our
historical collections.
Later collections, sorted according to modern principles, are termed "scientific collections". Those not in use at the
moment are our inactive scientific collections.
Our active scientific collections are those currently being arranged by
our scientists and research associates. These collections are smaller in size but much
more carefully catalogued, and studied, much of the data being computerised.
