INVERTEBRATE COLLECTIONS of SLOVENIAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY
As in many other similar Museums, in the Slovene Museum of Natural History most of the
collections are dry and pined collections of beetles and butterflies. Even though some date back
to the very beginnings, all are not yet fully studied.
The Slovenian Museum of Natural History preserves invertebrate, especially entomological collections of exceptional
historical worth, enabling us to see the development of biological thought processes,
collection techniques, and changes in the biodiversity. We call these the
historical collections.
Later collections, sorted according to modern principles, are the scientific collections. Those
at the moment not in use are inactive scientific collections.
The active scientific collections are those being arranged by
the scientific workers and research associates. These collections are smaller in size but much
more carefully catalogued, studied, and many data are also computerised.
