Lives on the ground and on plants, feeds on diverse seeds.

Živi na tleh in na rastlinah. Hrani se z različnimi semeni.

Note: In my opinion, Rhyparochromus sanguineus (Douglas & Scott, 1868) is most probably a synonym of R. phoeniceus. All characters used by Rieger (1993) to distinguish between the two are very variable in specimens of the same population and in all characters intermediate states are observed.
