Introduction
These bird recordings have been selected from the Wildlife Sound Library of the Natural Audio and Visual Documentation Center of Slovenia (NAVIS) at the Slovenian Museum of Natural History. The aim has been to include bird species which nest in the different types of forest in Slovenia. The sounds of 93 bird species are included.
We would prefered to use only recordings made in Slovenia, but those of Subalpine Warbler Sylvia cantillans were made in Croatia. The date and location of recordings are not given, but you can find this information on this page. The material was recorded with Telinga Pro 3 M and Pro 5 S microphones on Sony TCD-D3 and TCD-D10 Pro II digital tape recorders, and processed with the ProTools 5 program on a Macintosh G4 computer. The original recordings were not modified significantly, except for some filtering to reduce the intrusive background noise of lower frequencies, which has not affected the acoustic range of the bird sounds. The three exceptions are the recordings of Stock Dove Columba oenas, Long-eared Owl Asio otus and Turtle Dove Streptopelia turtur which were specially filtered.
Following the recommendations of Bird Life Slovenia, Slovene avian names are used according to the Namelist of the Birds of the Western Palearctic (Acrocephalus 94-95, 1999), and English and Latin names from the List of Birds of the Western Palearctic (British Birds 1997, Bedford).
